Wrap Yourself Up in This Spring Trend: Trench Coats!

Happy Spring!! Can you believe that, just a few days ago, we celebrated the Solemnity of St. Joseph AND the arrival of Spring?!

It’s always exciting and invigorating when a new season arrives. The start of Spring is also a fantastic time to do a good sweep of your closet and cull out all the stuff that you’re not wearing. Take “spring cleaning” to another level!

This week, let’s focus on a super practical, stylish piece of clothing that is really TRENDING this season

The trench coat!

Now, there are many styles of trench coats, and some are “trenchier” than others. I find them fantastic for chilly mornings. And in one of my posts last year about trenches, I shared what a fantastic travel companion they can be. I’m not one to say no to a trench, and years of writing posts can prove that!

Today though, I’d like to highlight another wonderful use for them.

What I really love is how it’s the perrrrrrrrrfect last-minute piece to throw on for daily Mass. I just pulled mine out earlier this week for Mass and it really was a lifesaver!!

If you’re like many Club members, your day is dynamic, and full of all sorts of activities. Perhaps you’re dropping off your kids, cleaning the house, running to meetings or daily Mass, or trying to get to the gym. Well, if that sounds like you, then I think you will DEFINITELY find a trench coat that suits your lifestyle. Especially if I’m wearing jeans to daily Mass, it’s the perfect piece to add a bit more coverage and polish up your Look.

A trench coat will also keep you warm without feeling quite so OVERLY toasty (as being in your wool winter coat). It’s the perfect seasonal transition - it really is!

Here are a few things I look for when buying a trench coat.

  1. What color suits my wardrobe and personal coloring? It has to be an easy match to what I’m wearing and also highlight my hair, skin, and eyes.

  2. What’s the best length for it? If I wear a lot of dresses and skirts that are a similar length, then look for one that compliments that; it’s important that your trench coat’s length works with, not against, your body’s silhouette.

  3. What’s precipitation (rain, snow, etc.) like where I live? Not all trenches need to be water resistant.

  4. How casual to dressy do you want it to be? Do you rarely get dressed up? If so, opt for a more casual version.

  5. How much are you looking to spend? If you have a spending cap, then make sure you stick to that budget accordingly (you don’t want to waste time AND money, too, do you?)

Et voila! Here are a few trenches to take a look at:
