Inspiration à la Provençal

“Gosh, I have so enjoyed this and feel like you have helped me sooo much. I feel like you have helped me get my confidence back at a time I really needed it. I also feel like a gained a really cool, fashionable frien (96).png

This past weekend, I got the chance to join my husband’s family in sharing a marvelous celebration of French Provençal culture.

In Arles, France, we attended the Pegouladou Festival. Women and men (and children - too cute!) were dressed up in traditional Provençal clothes, with styles dating back to the 1800’s (like living history!!). The festival is a celebration of the culture that lasts all weekend, including a big parade that saluted the many different jobs and work performed by its townspeople, plus period music and dancing, along with a Mass on Sunday, where the local women attend still wearing their traditional Provencal dresses!

It was beautiful to see! The fabrics, the cuts, the lace - their outfits were so feminine and elegant. Every woman looked lovelier than the next, and you could feel how their dress probably changed their demeanor, too!

Here are a few snapshots of what a period Provencal dress looks like:

I  mean, can you imagine dressing like this? It’s so beautiful and feminine! Every woman looks amazing. Never underestimate the power of a fit and flare dress!

Beyond the period dressing, I was also inspired by the chic, au courant dresses also worn by the women of Provence. Here are a few notable characteristics:

#1 There is an ease and comfort to their dress.

#2 Their look is never over-accessorized.

#3 Makeup and hair are kept natural and minimal.

#4 They always appear comfortable in whatever they were wearing.

#5 The overall look is never “loud,” but instead soft and tasteful in its elegance.

So, inspired by these characteristics, I thought I’d share with you a few styles that really seem unique to modern day Provence.
