Espadrilles! Your Solution to the Summer Sandal Scandal

Let’s talk about summer footwear… Would you maybe, just maybe, agree that’s when you let yourself “slip on any old thing?” I’ve seen it time and time again during Summer. We all have those “fall-back-on sandals.” Most likely a pair that’s a little older, a little more beat up and… 

Totally DOESN’T go with our outfit. 

 
 

Hey, that’s okay. BUT I might have another (better!) option for you.

Comfort is key and it’s so dang hot out! We’re just focused on how to keep cool and get through our day.

Just the other day, I wore a small heeled loafer to Cotignac (which you can read more about in Fr. Don Calloway’s Consecration to St. Joseph!) to see (and drink) from the spring St. Joseph appeared. And let me tell you, I wore the WRONG shoes for a gravel, rocky trail to get to the spring.

But, as I’m spending more and more time here in Provence, I’m inspired by a popular style that works amazingly in the heat, you can WALK on those dirt trails and cobblestones and look just as good dressed up as they do dressed down.

Have you tried… the espadrille???

They’re a natural, chic, French- inspired sandal AND (not to go without mentioning), extremely versatile! The espadrille comes from the Catalan word, espardenya, for the indigenous European plant used to weave the iconic soles of this perfect summer sandal.

Here’s a few outfits you can pair espadrilles with:

  1. A chic black dress for dinner and an evening out.

  2. A flowing white or off-white dress for lunch or casual date around town

  3. Try it with Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt for running errands

  4. You can also wear them witha summery maxi skirt to a party or brunch

  5. Never underestimate the power of blue jeans and a white T-shirt - a fantastic choice for pairing with these sandals!

  6. Who doesn’t love a Summer floral dress? Perfect with that, too!

  7. And let’s not  forget with a white or off-white pair of pants or trousers, and  a white linen button-down shirt.
