5 Lies that Lead to an UNhappy Wardrobe

Have you ever complicated something so simple? You know, put all of these barriers and excuses and mental landmines in the way of getting something done?

Well I’ve done it plenty! And…. know the rewarding feeling of when I UNcompicate something and it feels light and free...the way it’s supposed to be!

With my line of work, going into woman’s closets, helping each person build their perfect wardrobe - there’s a lot of realizations I see each woman achieve. Most often, after working together, they see how simple and easy it is once they have the tools. They not only can see a better closet but they feel lighter, happier, and have more mental space to care for the things that really matter.

What’s struck me over the past few years, is that there are 5 lies women tell themselves to not redo their style. Let’s walk through them now - and if you agree with any of these statements, it’s time to look at it in it’s true light… and get ready for your wardrobe overhaul!

So, what are the 5 lies I hear all the time?

# 1.You need a lot of money

If you think you need an unlimited budget to walk into Nordstrom and buy what you like - this is not the case. Thrift stores, consignment stores, off the rack stores (like TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, Marshall’s) are places you can find great brands for just a small fraction of the price. There is RARELY ever a time to pay full price for something - always buy on sale! Also, if you really learn what you should buy and make educated decisions - you will not regret that purchase! You’ll be happier with fewer pieces because you really enjoyyyyyyy them.

#2. You need more closet space

Don’t use your husband’s clothes taking over or not enough square feet in your house to convince you there’s no room to make it work. Take a look at your closet and ask yourself when was the last time you wore HALF of what was in there. My bet is you don’t realize how much is in there that you don’t wear, just taking up space.

#3. You don’t have the time

It will take too much time if you don’t address what needs to change and make an action plan. If you’re not sure how to do this you can follow my guide right here. By parsing out time to learn how to build your wardrobe, you will be on a hamster wheel going around, around and around - constantly frustrated with your wardrobe - thus, giving you even LESS time to do the things you want to do.

#4. You’re being vain (and you probably think this song is about you)

God is the King of Beauty! Think about it… When a dear friend comes over, what do you do? You put out some fresh flowers, some pretty napkins, some lovely table settings. And what about yourself? You can show people you are excited to be in their presence by dressing up. (now, we obviously don’t want to go overboard - everything in moderation!). But I will also add that by taking the time to build your closet, you can be less vain because you won’t always be worrying and stressing on what you’re wearing or how you will look. (Trust me, I’ve seen it with my clients!!)

#5. You’re not at your “right weight”

One of the most common lies to combat. You are the weight you are now and sometimes it even takes a little adjusting mentally, knowing that as you get older - your body will change. It’s natural! And that’s a good thing. A great thing! The quicker you learn to flatter your shape, the happier you will be. Your weight goal will not stress you out when your dressing for the shape you currently are.

I hope this helps you nip in the bud any reason holding you back! When you do, you really are about to ENJOY your closet and not have it be a point of stress in your life!
