Growing up, shopping trips with my mom always ended with her reminding me that, if you add something, you have to remove something.
And I have to say, after seeing nuuuuuumerous closets over the years… I am SO thankful for this tip!
As a Personal Stylist, I’ve grown to absolutely love (and find total bliss and joy from) transitioning my closet from one season to another (I really, really do). Hear me out. There are a LOT of advantages. Every seasonal closet transition… not only is it enjoyable, but you learn a TON.
If you start following the Something In/Something Out rule, you will find that you will stop wasting money and come closer to finding your dream style (and who doesn’t want that?!).
These are 10 benefits that I’ve found and I hope you find them, too!
I am reminded of what’s in my closet that I haven’t been wearing.
It’s easier to notice clothes in poor condition that should be given away.
I can focus on what I really want to wear this season.
It shows me what is still missing from my closet basics.
I can reorganize my closet in a way that makes sense for my morning routine.
It’s an opportunity to not just organize my closet but make it look more efficient and attractive (why look at chaos first thing in the morning?)
The process facilitates coming to the understanding of… do my clothes stress me out? Or do my clothes really work for my lifestyle?
It helps release that feeling of,“Oh, I need to keep this because my friend donated it to me, my husband gave it to me, I spent a lot of money on it and never wore it, etc. .
It’s fun!! The more you start to go through your clothes, the easier it becomes, so… less stress!!
Give it a different mindset and let go of seeing a closet refreshening as a problem in your life! That’s the LAST thing any of us need now, xo.
