90 Days to Style: Take My Suitcase Challenge

“Gosh, I have so enjoyed this and feel like you have helped me sooo much. I feel like you have helped me get my confidence back at a time I really needed it. I also feel like a gained a really cool, fashionable frien (30).png

Remember my post from a couple weeks ago about transitioning your Winter closet to Spring? Well now, I’d like to show you how to trim your closet down even MORE.

During my video consultations this season, I’ve been encouraging my clients to REALLY edit their wardrobes, so that they are truly ecstatic about each piece.

And I bet, if you looked in your closet right now, chances are… there’s something in there that you’d confess to being just not all-that-jazzed about.

Have you ever walked into an older home and noticed how teeny-tiny the closets are? Okay, so people were smaller then and made more of their own clothing BUT that’s still my point:  There was no room left to feel “Eh” about any garment.

And we can bring this sense of streamlined discipline back for our (bigger) closets, too!

I KNOW, I hear it all the time… I know that it can be difficult to remove things from your closet. Trust me, I’ve heard EVERY excuse.

“My husband bought this for me”

“I’ve only worn it twice and I paid a lot for it”

”I’ll fit into eventually”

“I just don’t have anything to match with it”

“There’s nothing really wrong with it”

I GET IT. And how you feel guilty for wasting money you could have invested and grown.

So, let’s make this a bit easier AND fun!

To cull your closet further, let’s try a 3-Month Suitcase Challenge. What is that? Well, anything and EVERYthing you say “Eh” to, you’ll put it into an empty suitcase for three months. At the end of three months, you can go back to your suitcase and open it up.

If there is anything in this suitcase that you missed wearing, you can definitely put it back in your closet. To the items you say “Oh yea, I forgot about this…” well… bon voyage and off to the Goodwill donations!!!

You also get the joy of reshopping your stored closet. It’s like shopping for free AND it can feel quite rewarding!

If we go into a closet cleansing thinking there’s no middle ground and that everything either has to STAY or GO… chances are, we’ll keep most stuff because we come up with an excuse why it should stay in our closet.

You don’t have to look at this as if you are making some life-changing decision….

Let’s ease the load and give yourself a middle ground.

With the Suitcase Challenge, it takes all the pressure off. You realize you CAN live without all of those items that used to be in your closet. You might even realize how much easier it is to mix and match what you already have. Also, the clothes you reinstate into your closet will feel new again and give you a fresh perspective on how to wear them after their three month hiatus!

I hope this is something fun for you to do, while making your wardrobe a little happier.
