3 Not-So-Intimidating Wardrobe Tips to Kick-Off the New Year
Happy 2023!! Doesn’t that sound futuristic??!
With the New Year, many of us (of course) make resolutions. For instance, I thought it would be more prudent not to speed to daily Mass and to be a little more attentive when I’m washing the dishes. Small things, but in the end, they all add up, don’t they?
Now, what I’m going to say next is not to toot my own horn, but to serve as inspiration for YOU to attack your new year’s wardrobe with vigor, so that it is no longer causing you stress and dissatisfaction. It is possible to invest time and money in your closet and have it work for you for the long run.
One client recently told me (and it only took four months):
“I’m so grateful for you and all your time that you've invested! You're one of my best 2022 decisions. THANK YOU!”
Wouldn’t you like this to be what YOU have to say, just four short months into your 2023?! WOOHOO!
Well, let’s get going then. Right now.
Here are THREE TIPS (and guess what? they’re all FREE) to get your wardrobe started:
1. Identify the 3 WORST pieces in your closet: What are the three pieces that fill you with stress, or make you feel like a not-best-version of yourself? Once you’ve selected the trio of offenders, take a moment to think about why they invoked those feelings, then write a note to yourself and save it on your phone. Then put those pieces (yes, even if they were a gift, or expensive, and/or you never wore it) in a “to donate” pile!
2. Pick out your 5 FAVORITES and neatly place them in the most prominent part of your closet: This is a new trick I started over the summer. It makes it so much easier to gravitate to my favorite pieces that might otherwise get lost or muddled in a crush of clothes. Plus, looking at my favorite clothes, hung so nicely (and spaciously), conveniently in front of me, helped hone my aesthetic for my own personal Look.
3. Ask/text a family member or trusted friend what they think is the BEST outfit they’ve seen on you: It’s easy to get stuck in a bubble of what you think looks good or bad on you. Sometimes it helps to get a fresh eyes to give you a new perspective on where to go with your wardrobe. Of course you don’t have to follow any direction if you’re not happy or comfortable with it, but it’s a great way to invite fresh perspectives as you weigh in on your closet changes.
