Glad for Plaid: The Influence of St. Margaret on Fashion

With all the Christmas styling, I can’t help feeling giddy for plaid! But did you know… plaid had a Catholic start????

Well… It all had to do with a Saint who also happened to be the Queen of Scotland. YES… a queen, a fashion lover, and a SAINT.

Let’s dive in….

Margaret was the queen of Scotland in the 11th century. During her reign, she was an entrepreneur when it came to fashion. She employed foreign merchants to bring her beautiful fabrics and new fashions from all over the world.

Her vision was to transform the Scottish people by clothing them in beautiful colors and ornamental details, believing that, through elegance and class, her citizens would feel like a new race.

Saint Margaret played a MAJOR role in Scotland’s fashion! She not only understood the importance of dressing well… she also took ACTION.

She knew that what a person chooses to wear means something. That it is important. That the art of dressing well was not something to be underestimated.

She realized and understood the power of fashion and elegance. She knew that what we wear is an expression of who we are on the inside.

What we wear communicates who we are and what we believe.

Fast forward to today, and we see aScotland renowned for iconic patterns, colors, and textures. Scotland has made its own fashion statement  just like a Chanel, or Coach, or Louis Vuitton.

In honor of Saint Margaret of Scotland, and the celebration of Christmas next week (with all its plaid-everything), I propose that we add a few plaid pieces to our own seasonal wardrobes so… let’s shop!

Question: How do YOU wear plaid?!
