We’re nearing the end of Summer - just a few more days left! After many canicules (heatwaves) here in France, dressing for each day can often feel like you’re developing a plan of attack to fight the battle.🥵

While there’s many styles here, especially depending on which departement you’re in…. I’ve noticed one specific style to chic-ly endure the heat. This style is appropriate for mass and a bop around town walking to the marché.

And this style made me get thinking a bit. I’ve noticed here (perhaps out of necessity due to the lack of AC and the amount of walking here and there), that the dress styles are much looser. There is less of a focus on nipping it in at the waistline and trying to perfectly flatter your frame.

So what is the style? An easy breezy shift dress!

It’s easy to categorize it for little girls or if it’s on a younger woman, they are often short. But here, I’m noticing this style for the women 50+. And I must say, it REALLY works. There’s something to be said for wearing a dress your comfortable in, suits the occasion, has excellent fabric and is accessorized “chic and cool”.

The thing is, with shopping online or in-store, something that doesn’t have “hangar appeal” is often overlooked. But it can be that these very “basic” dresses, nothing to write home about, become a workhorse in our wardrobes. How fun is that? What a welcome surprise!

So here below, are a few shift and shift-like style dresses to shop. But here are a few notes to think about before diving in.

Since the dress is rather likely simple, go with a shoe for some punch! This is the perfect way to give it a cool-factor.
Personalize it with jewelry that feels very “you”. And remember, you don’t need a ton of variety. There’s something about signature jewelry that is so très chic.
Suns out … so sunnies are out! I recommend having a high quality one and then some inexpensive. Options you can use to give a different vibe to your Look.
Think about the layers you can add with slight temperature changes. An easy sweater over the shoulder adds polish and the feeling of a completed outfit.
If you’re having a hard time finding shift dresses, you can just remove the belt it comes with to give it that breezy, flowy feel.
