Chapel Veils: Veiling for the Sacred

One of the coolest things about our Catholic faith is its rich history of tradition, and one of these traditions is - veiling!

You’ve probably seen more and more women wearing veils at Mass. My husband and I attend a Latin Mass, and a very reverent Novus Ordo here in Scottsdale and one thing that has really struck me is the number of women veiling at the Novus Ordo (it’s easy to get distracted at Mass despite trying our best to keep our mind and hearts towards the Mass.)

The veil is a fantastic way to do this - which makes sense, because why wouldn’t God give us these tools, Sacraments and sacramentals if not to be nearer to Heaven?

There are a few reasons why the veil is a wonderful tradition to continue (and please comment below with more).

Here we go:

  1. It exudes reverence.

  2. Orthodox Jewish women veil (and we’re sort of an extension/fulfillment of that).

  3. Throughout time, people have veiled what they consider sacred. Women veiling themselves is an expression of their dignity.

  4. It encourages focus (how often are women flipping and playing with their hair during Mass?)

  5. It separates your daily life from entering something EXTRAordianry… the sacrifice of the Mass.

So now, if you’d like to try the veil, here are some options:
