Breaking Bad Outfits, Not Budgets

On my way to Mass the other day I saw my first school bus of the season. 😼 No lie! Before we know it, we’ll be changing our seasonal wardrobes too, from Summer to Fall.

As someone who lives (most of the time) in the Arizona desert, 103 degrees means that Fall is on its way! 😂

Aren’t we already feeling this revitalization of our closets? I can attest, it’s the busiest time of year with my Club Members. Everyone wants to do a “mini facelift” of their wardrobe.

But let me let you in on a little secret: It really doesn’t take  a lot of money to enjoy what you wear.

Here are seven tried-and-true steps to giving your closet that much-needed refresh and get you that much closer to the personal style you’ve been looking for.

Let’s go!

  1. Identify what you wear most (like it or not - be honest)

  2. What are the attributes of these pieces that make you grab them? For example, is it the fabric, the way it hits your waistline, bust or shoulders? Or perhaps it’s the color that makes you feel awake and fresh?

  3. Note these attributes. Don’t hesitate to write them down.

  4. Find inspiration. Start a mood board with styles that make you say, “Yes that’s me!”

  5. Bridge the gap between your mood board and your favorite pieces you’ve written down. Analyze the details of what makes something a winning piece because this is your perfect shopping list! Make a prioritized list of the pieces that would add huge value to your Look, and give you the variety you want to add to what you already always wear.

  6. Shop online, use filters, hit that return threshold! You may grow weary scrolling through over-abundant ranges of colors not in your realm, sizes not in your range, and sleeves or dress lengths that do not suit you BUTlet’s not forget that we can avoid that $10.99 shipping threshold by ordering various sizes to make sure it fits just right.

  7. Stay on top of returns. This is HUGE. If you set your mind on returning something that doesn’t work right after trying it on, you will not regret opening your wallet in the first place. And while we’re on the topic of returns - when you try it on and wonder, “Is this okay? Is this ‘Me’?” The best way to make that decision is to ask yourself, “Do I want to take it off?” If you want to keep wearing it  - then it’s a GO. Never try to convince yourself to like and keep something (that’s probably the BIGGEST MONEY SAVER of all).

I hope you have a good time trying these seven suggestions. Because you should, you really should and, if it becomes stressful then take a break - it’s okay!
