Ballet Flats: Fashion to Dance into Your Heart
I remember when I was single - I’d look at a man’s shoes to see what type of person he was, to see if he was a potential suitor. And I have to say… as superficial as this sounds, it really was quite accurate!
Honestly! You can tell a lot from someone's shoes. Now, I’m not going to get into that here, BUT… what all of this does say is: Shoes are important.
I like to tell my Club Members that you can have a fairly simple, classic outfit and – with the right shoe – really drive a Look home and polish it off.
A good shoe that also coincides with your “style personality” will help you throw together a simple outfit, run out the door, and still feel polished and totally prepared to face your day.
In fact… just the other day, from one of my Club Members, I received one of my favorite types of pictures… of a collection of shoes!
And the question that came with that image was a fabulous one!
She had sent a picture of a collection of very nice ballet flats that she had acquired throughout the years. She asked me if they should be donated because they haven’t been very popular for years… until… now!
Yes, indeed ladies, the ballet flat is having a major fashion moment! It is trending! With all of the Y2K trends going around this year, it doesn’t mean you have to over-pluck your eyebrows or swipe sparkly blue eyeshadow across your lids. One really great way to pull this trend off – and do it with class – is by resurrecting the ballet flats!
Being a French wardrobe staple, now would be a prime time to invest in a high quality pair. This is definitely a footwear staple that, quality- and cost-wise, you want to go just a wee bit more to the expensive side. You can wear them for years (regardless if their shining moment is now). And it’s just one of those pieces where, if it’s not good quality, it really shows. So now’s the time to take advantage of the variety of ballet flats out there and the sales!
However, if you’ve ever felt like they didn’t flatter you or doubted their fashion sense, relax and try going with a monochromatic look. I remember a couple Christmases ago in Provence, I was really a fan of wearing a turtleneck with black jeans and black ballet flats. It was easy, comfy, no-fuss and had a classic polished Look. So simple!
Now that I’ve shared this latest styling trick, it’s time to shop!
