“Gosh, I have so enjoyed this and feel like you have helped me sooo much. I feel like you have helped me get my confidence back at a time I really needed it. I also feel like a gained a really cool, fashionable frien (75).png

Well... good news!! Capes are IN for 2021 and I am ALL here for it!!

Capes are a feminine, stylish, and practical way to keep cozy amidst the cold. It’s such a great option when you don’t want to wear your boring winter coat over and over again. I find that with jeans especially, it adds a more feminine touch to my Look.

But have you ever wondered about the history of capes?

I learned from the CR Fashion book, that the first illustration of a woman with a cape is from the 1300s!! Capes had numerous variations depicting rank in medieval society.

Later on capes became popular to protect m’lady’s evening dress, while not crushing or harming the fine fabric of the dress the way a heavy winter coat would.

If you’re uncertain about wearing a cape, I have a few tips that will make it less daunting and more approachable:

1. Try it with jeans. Since the cape might seem more of a statement piece, you can tone it down with a simple blue, black or white jean. I would stick to a straight or skinny cut so as not to add too much volume and flow.

2. If you wear it with a skirt, go for a simple, neutral colored pencil skirt. Stay away from anything too flowy, as this risks making you look like you are drowning in fabric. A neutral pencil skirt is low key, ensuring your look stays classy and chic, and not too ‘over the top.’

3. Wear a simple, neutral, long-sleeve cotton T-shirt underneath. You don’t want to wear anything else that might ‘compete’ with the cape so this will give it a clean, elegant-yet-relaxed aesthetic..

4. Choose a cape in a classic print and color. Since  wearing a cape is going to be a more unique style statement, you will feel more comfortable sticking to a timeless print/color that offers a reassuring degree of comfort and chicness.

Here are a few capes for you to shop!

I hope these capes encourage your Winter wardrobe to spread its wings a little!
