New Series! How to Dress Your Shape: Become a Peach of a Pear
I’m excited to introduce to you a new series for 2020! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be going over how to dress for your shape. Yep, all six of them: pear, strawberry, banana, apple and hourglass (i know- so sad this is the only one without a fruit name!).
And this week we will begin with... the “pear” shape.
(If you’re not a pear, stay tuned because in the weeks ahead we’ll go over each of the different shapes or silhouettes.
So, what is a “pear” shape? A pear carries her weight in her hips, keister and things.
The goal in dressing or styling a pear shape is to create an aesthetically flattering look that emphasizes BALANCE, meaning the upper half of your body (think, from your belly button up) is in equal proportion to your bottom half.
It’s so amazing we can use the way we wear clothes to trick the eye. So… how do we do this? Here are TEN styling tricks to create this balance (if not already there).
Keep your look clean and minimal on the bottom. (Think straight, smooth lines, no horizontal stripes, no busy/bold patterns)
Add structure to your upper half with - structured or puff shoulders, jackets, or blazers.
Bring in bold prints and bright color on top
Highlight your waistline by tucking in your blouse.
Keep your blouse flowy but not too tight.
Add a statement necklace to add visual weight and texture to the top.
Take advantage of high-end denim that will stretch with your curves while smoothly holding you in. Paige, Joe’s and Hudson are good brands for pear shapes.
Try a long blazer or topper coat to dissect the visual line at the hip.
High-waisted flared, wide leg pants will look great!
A-line dresses allow extra room at the hip. A fit-and-flare cut is a great option too.
Here are a few great dresses that are peachy for pear ladies!
I hope these are helpful. Not pear shaped? Don’t worry! Stay tuned and watch for more styling secrets, perfect for YOUR shape in the coming weeks!
