Are your hangups holding your style back?

It’s tough sometimes to be brutally honest with ourselves, right???

“Why did I gain 5 pounds, this month… I’ve been eating so healthy!!!” (Meanwhile snacking on cookies throughout the day).

Or...

“I can’t believe the officer gave me a speeding ticket! I wasn’t even going that fast!” (Meanwhile cruising 10mph over the speed limit in a school zone).

It’s easy to make excuses (I can be the queen of them). It’s a vice I need to conquer.

John Paul II has one of the best quotes about making excuses. He said:

“An excuse is worse than a lie. It is a lie guarded.”

Excuses can apply to matters great and small… and also to our closets! Yes, I said our closets because how many excuses do you make for YOUR wardrobe?

One of the most common excuses I hear women make in regards to feeling that their style is subpar is how we’re still holding on to pieces of clothing that we don’t wear, rather than donating them.

And I get it, it can be sooo easy to pick up a top in your closet, see all of the good things about it, and rationalize the money you spent for it. Unfortunately though, as cute as it is, if it’s a top you never wear, all it’s doing is just derailing your efforts to hone in on your own, personal style and creates stress in your head and a mess in your closet.

So to help you be COMPLETELY honest with your closet and your wardrobe choices, I have a really simply, really terrific trick for you:

Go through your closet and make sure ALL your hangers are facing the SAME way. Then, when you wear a top/piece, turn its hanger the OPPOSITE way. If you keep doing this for just one month, you will see the clothes that you actually wear and then, you can think about how happy that top you clearly don’t wear will make someone else, and you can honestly feel good about donating it. No excuses.

And while you’re in there organizing your hangers, I’d like to recommend some of the best hangers to give you a ton of room and peace of mind!

Whitmore Swinging Arm Hanger The arms swing out so you don’t rip out all of the pants when you go to get one out. Brilliant, right?!
