The Work Horse Dress: Ready For Any Event

Every now and again, you have that event, occasion or special function you have to attend. It might not happen that often, or maybe every month your ravaging through your closet thinking “what do I have, what do I HAVE!”.

And rather than frantically dashing out to Nordstrom’s the evening before… wouldn’t it be nice to have a couple staple pieces ready to go?

Ahhhh, the relief!

You may have seen my email last week, but I was in one of these situations, with my husband’s company, Vaucluse Gear (and thank you for your support from that email - he won 1st place!!!). I had to have a look that was semi-professional, polished, and could travel well to adapt to weather changes. And too, let’s not forget being comfortable! When you’re at these types of things, the last of your worries need to be how uncomfy you feel - there are bigger things to focus on!

Well, in this scenario, I ended up using a workhorse dress that really doesn’t fail me. And there are specific qualities that it has. The great thing is - these dresses aren’t hard to come by - in fact, they are the easiest! So let’s uncomplicate this now.

Here are 5 things to look for:

  1. Keep it seasonless. How do you do that? Make sure you can pair it with a summer shoe or boots and tights. Do remember, if you’re wearing it with a coat/sweater - to match it with your staple layers and maybe not go for that puff sleeve.

  2. Keep it timeless. Stay away from trends on this one.

  3. Keep it your style. Make sure your it “feels you”. This dress is not the time to feel bold or pushing the boundaries. If you’re “in a mood” the day you have to wear it you want it to work.

  4. Keep it simple. It will make your life so much easier to have a couple dresses that can easily adapt to the occasion. Hair, accessories, jewelry, shoes - can really make the dress!

  5. Keep in mind your accessories! A fun headband, scarf, or bracelet can shift the vibe of the dress and make it feel new.
