The St. Benedict Medal: The Ultimate Statement Piece

We talk a lot here on this blog about our wardrobe and style… but… let us not forget that the MOST important pieces we add to our outfits are… our Sacramentals!

One of my favorites (and a super powerful one) is the Benedictine medal. I’ve talked about this before and thought I’d share an excerpt with you from my book, The Catholic Wardrobe: Musings from a Personal Stylist, about the power of wearing this medal.

Here is an excerpt from page 34 of my chapter on Dressing Liturgically:

The St. Benedict medal is a powerful weapon and I do mean “weapon,” because it has a tangible effect against the devil.

St. Benedict is an incredible Saint who enriched the life and grandeur of Europe. The image we have on today’s medals was struck in Montecasino in 1880, on the 1400th anniversary of his birth.

On the medal are two powerful prayers. The first, “Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!” translates to “The Holy Cross be my light; Let not the dragon be my guide.”

The second prayer is just as moving: “Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas!” Meaning,  “Begone, Satan, Never tempt me with thy vanities! Evil are the things thou offerest. Drink thou thy own poison!”

WOW!! Isn’t that just what you need when temptation arises or you get the sudden feeling that you need to pray?

These prayers are also invoked during the rite of exorcism and are VERY efficacious against evil. Wearing this medal will have tangible effects in your life. Because this medal is a Sacramental, you’ll need to hand it to a priest to do a proper blessing.

You can wear this medal either on a chain around your neck or attached to a bracelet.

Now… you’ve got that extra “oomph” you need to fight your way to Heaven!  Below are more beautiful options that will gird you with a little extra celestial “ammo.”
