St. Margaret of Scotland
This story is about St. Margaret of Scotland. And I learned we were destined to be friends (and since you’re reading this, likely YOU too!).
St. Margaret was the queen of Scotland in the 11th century. During her reign, she was an entrepreneur when it came to fashion. She employed foreign merchants to bring her beautiful fabrics and new fashions from all over the world.
Her vision was to transform her Scottish people by clothing them in beautiful colors and ornamental details. She believed that the elegance and class would make her citizens feel like a new race.
Now, what a smart cookie is SHE?! Pure brilliance. Would you not agree that when you are dressed well, you have a lifted sense of mission and decorum?
St Margaret not only understood the importance of dressing well… but she also took ACTION.
How EXCITING is the Catholic Church that we have a Saint like her! And so easily reachable with a simple prayer (here is a novena!).
What I find VERY exciting is that she got creative to build up her country. She understood that what we wear is an expression of who were are on the inside. What we wear communicates who we are and what we believe.
Fast forward today, and we know Scotland for its iconic patterns, colors, and textures… and… it’s KNITWEAR!
Knitwear is major in Scottland - there are more sheeps than people! They produce very high quality in wool.
In honor of St Margaret of Scotland, whose feast day is November 16, I propose we take a little look at wool. When it comes to wool - it can get pricey, but there are a few places that are my tops for wool. Check it out below!
#1 Off 5th Saks: Cashmere Shop - Yes, they have a WHOLE section dedicated to cashmere. If you want high quality for a great deal, this is the place to go.
#2 Banana Republic Factory: I know, I know… Banana Republic Factory sounds basic and unexciting. But I must say, they’ve been having the year of their life! I very much trust their wool sweaters. In fact, I’ve had one for a couple years that I use year around to dress up AND even wear as an underlayer for skiing. I’m telling you - it’s great!
#3 Quince: You’ve probably seen this brand pop upon your radar and it is worth a look! You can get really chic pieces but just remember their return policy before buying like you would on Amazon.
#4 Nordstrom Rack: How could I not include Nordstrom Rack?! Do you think I’ve changed?! Yes, here you will find great deals on wool and cashmere. If you need to return, simply drop off at your local Nordstrom Rack.
Question: Where do YOU buy your knitwear?
