Sport a Little Texture: Corduroy

Isn’t it interesting – and exciting – to note how certain fabrics and textures have “a moment?

Well, this Fall, that moment is a REAL throwback to the past because  (dare I say it?) this season you can look out for…

Corduroy!!!

I know, I know… While corduroy straight pants have still been somewhat ‘in,’ corduroy overall is having more of a stylish splurge across all the different garment options.

I dare say one of the last times I wore corduroy was to my First Reconciliation - it was a corduroy shift dress in forest green with (of course) the matching forest green beret.

And to be honest, besides its autumnal moment in J Crew pants, I’m not too sure WHY we ditched corduroy to the side. As long as you can ignore that  swishing sound when you walk, it’s a great textile to wear and there are SO many ways to fashion it.

One of the easiest, most efficient, and budget friendly ways to “mix up” your wardrobe is by adding a new texture to play with; it can really make your older pieces feel fresh and au courant.

  1. Try  corduroy pants with a western boot and easy cotton tee or sweater.

  2. Go for a sleeveless shift dress paired with a long sleeve shirt and tights.

  3. Don’t forget your corduroy jacket! This actually works with denim and can soften up a trouser pant.

  4. Let’s be open to a corduroy quilted vest, it’s both warm and adds texture!

  5. Dare I suggest a corduroy button-down? While a bit more explorative fashion-wise, it can also look and feel nostalgic, natural and flattering.

  6. For a more athletic look, go for a baseball cap with a corduroy brim.

  7. Don’t leave the house without your bag! A corduroy tote or belt bag makes for a fun easy touch!
