7 Not-So Expected Laundry Tips
A very blessed Lent to you!
As we kick off this Lenten season, rightfully so… buying clothes are likely not on the forefront of our minds (unless however solving this issue could provide great relief for those around you!)
Year after year, I’m reminded that laundering clothes can only get better and better.
Think about it… how many pieces have you ‘ruined’ because it was improperly cared for? Or how many pieces just don’t stand the test of time because they look worn and neglected?
Trust me, you are not alone - I hear it from clients who lose a top they love because of a laundry mistake.
The way the cookie crumbles is… Doing laundry is an art!
I have not been the best in the past, but I’ve really tried to get better and better. My mom sets the bar high, so I know the bliss of perfectly laundered clothes.
Here are a few unique techniques that I’ve recently been doing more often.
White vinegar and splash of essentials oils (lavender or rose geranium is lovely!) is a great alternative to detergent. This is best for pieces that just not a light wash/freshing up.
Mesh baggies for your delicates is a winner. These are perfect for items like tights.
To avoid pilling on your sweaters, wash in a bucket. Avoid wringing it out and rather, lay it flat on a large towel and gently roll the towel like a cinnamon roll. Let it soak up a few seconds then unroll and lay flat to dry
For those complicated pieces that often just have to go to the dry cleaners, try these to get a few more wears out of it.
Add a splash of baking soda into your wash (put it in the bin with the clothes) which will help brighten and soften the fabrics (as well as give it a more deep clean!).
Using a dull razor to remove any pilling on your sweaters (just to be careful!).
If using both detergent and white vinegar, add the white vinegar in the ‘rinse’ compartment which will soften your clothes.
Et viola! What are your laundering tips?
