The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
Can we take a moment to realize how PERfectly timed Catholic feast days and solemnities are throughout the year? This Monday we not only celebrate the New Year, but ALSO the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. What better way to kick off the New Year than in the hands of Our Lady!
Now, I must admit, being a cradle Catholic, these titles and words can lose their significance over time so… I did some research.
I learned here, that in 431 AD, Mary actually had to be defended as the “Mother of God”. People were arguing that Mary should only be recognized as the mother of Jesus in human, not divine, form.
But, thank goodness we can rest assured the Holy Spirit guides the Catholic Church! The Council Fathers came to the conclusion that, since Christ has two natures that form one person, Mary is indeed the mother of the whole person of Christ.
So… since this is such a HUGE day for us, we should celebrate it wholeheartedly! On Marian days, I enjoy wearing blue or gold as a tribute to Our Lady. It doesn’t have to be much, perhaps just a splash of either color in your outfit.
Below are a few of my favorite pieces to dress up for her.
Have a fantastic New Year and a very joyful Solemnity!
