Why You Need An Inspiration Board

As we’re coming up to the last month of winter and into spring in a month (woohoo!), a lot of us are looking forward to the warmer weather, and all the great stuff that accompanies warmer weather - like the travel, the get-togethers, our next holiday (Easter) AND… no longert having to wear a big old heavy coat that covers our pretty outfit!

So… with all of that ahead, what we come to… inspiration for a new season’s wardrobe!

However, to many women, this can seem daunting. Have you ever said…

“I don’t know where to start.”

“I don’t even know what my style is.”

“I don’t want to look too old, but I don’t want to look like I’m trying to be younger than I am.”

“I don’t know where to shop.”

“I am not the weight I want to be so I don’t want to buy clothes right now.”

Now, these phrases can really dampen one’s spirit and that’s not fun. And fashion should be fun, light-hearted, and definitely not stressful!

So just for a moment, let’s forget all of these negative-Nancy phrases and start working on that wardrobe of yours!

Where to begin???

Well, first we must find your inspiration!

Would you build a house without a blueprint? Would a Michelin-star restaurant serve dinner without properly planning the menu?

My goodness, no! So why wouldn’t you plan your wardrobe thoughtfully, too?

Find images that whet your inspiration and collect them in one spot. If you’re tech-savvy you can start a Pinterest board. Here’s a snippet of mine so you can see how easy and helpful it is:

If you prefer having it tangibly in front of you, you can always print out pictures and keep them collected together.

Here are a few practical ways to find inspiration.

1. Go on the websites of your favorite brands. You can pin the photos that catch your eye or print them out.

2. Pay attention to movies and television shows. Perhaps you love how the Dowager from Downton Abbey is always bedecked with some sort of lace or jewels over a classic silhouette or maybe you enjoy the subtle, classic, neutral styles of Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail. Or even the feminine, elegant styles of Grace Kelly in her films. You can pin these photos to your Pinterest or print them out.

3. Look to the ladies around you! Are there any of your friends whose style you enjoy? Why not just ask them where they shop - this info will be huge.

4. Think about your past wardrobe. Have you ever had an outfit that you REALLY loved? What was it? What were the elements? Perhaps it had a classic, tailored silhouette or maybe it was flowy and airy.

5. Have a personal stylist help you find your inspiration. To top that off, you can have a Catholic stylist (like yours truly) help you for simply $39/month (lock this rate in now before demand – and rates – increase).
