Headbands: Put Some Pop at the Top

Don’t you just love those simple items you can add to your wardrobe that (in the most cliché of terms) “take it from drab to fab?

That’s why we’re discussing one of those very items now and it neither costs a lot OR has a size tag! Plus, it can be worn equally stylishly to a ball game or to the opera… need I say more?!

Riddle me this, you say?

Let me introduce…The Headband!!

Now wait. Before you start saying in your head how “you don’t wear them,” let’s go over some pointers that I promise will help you find the one for Y-O-U.

Headbands are such an outfit lifesaver.

They polish a simple look and can control your hair on humid days or if you are in a bind. The headband is the perfect thing to pop on if your shampoo time got a bit delayed (we’ve all been there).

And then there’s the sheer practicality. A headband is great for keeping your hair out of the way, especially during housework. In fact, I had a near-vacuuming scare the other day! I bent down, towards the floor, to adjust the head of the vacuum and it nearly sucked my hair up! Now, had I had my headband on, I could have avoided a dicey situation of nearly getting my hair suctioned right up into the bristles!! YIKES

So… if you fancy giving headbands a second try, here are my five key tips:

  1. If you tried it a couple of times in the past and it didn’t seem to work, it may have been the brand or style, not you. Give it another whirl! Go into a few stores and try a few variations.

  2. Consider where you want to be wearing it. Is this something you’d like for fancier occasions? To jazz up a simple dress to wear to a graduation, the opera or maybe a bridal shower? Or maybe something more day-to-day to freshen the look of a jean and white button-down shirt.

  3. What color do you want closest to your face/hair? While you don’t have to stick strictly to “your colors,” this is an optimal time to stick within your shades.

  4. How many seasons do you want this to carry you? If it’s just for the winter months you can (of course) go for velvet. If it’s for the summer, consider something in a rattan tone, or a bright and festive look could be fun.

  5. Be attentive to any pressure points on your head that feel like pinching ( like right behind the ears). If your headband does not feel comfy, there’s no way in hay you’ll want to wear it, and then it will become just another item that you’ll feel was wasted money. And we won’t be having that!
