Don’t Overlook That White Cotton Tee
Well, it’s July and it’s H - O - T! Especially because I’ve traded French baguettes for American BBQ while staying here in the desert. Which means… how to stay cool in the heat!
We often think that less is cooler, however, I really think that the right FABRIC is what makes you cooler.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Have you ever noticed, that those “athletic materials” often don’t work the way you expect? They retain aroma and wind up making you feel like you can’t breathe.
While top-of-the-line, moisture-wicking shirts may allow you to retain the sweat on your body (the sweat moves to the top layer and evaporates quickly), they are not all created equal. It’s deceiving. We presume that all “slippery” material implies it’s automatically “no sweat - cool sportswear.” But not so, not so… Which has led me to do a little research on fabrics and brings me to my point… Unless you are doing extreme exercise in the heat…
Nothing beats a good natural cotton Tee shirt. Really!
Does anything keep you cooler and lighter than a nice cotton Tee??? Let alone a white cotton Tee?
For years I’d wear blouses and flowy tank tops, but NOTHING would be as comfortable, light and cool as a short sleeve cotton Tee. The fabric feels light and airy, soft to the touch, and easily breathes.
Cleaning is easy as you just toss a little bleach in the wash to keep it bright white!
But how do you style a white cotton Tee??? Well here are a few ways I recommend wearing it:
Try it with a nice pair of pants, tucked in. This will make your pants more casual and relaxed (plus give you an opportunity to wear them more). Make this look complete with a loafer or a white sneaker if you want to be a bit more adventurous.
It’s perfect with a midi or maxi/midi skirt for Mass. This is a super simple Mass look that turns the femininity up on the white Tee and looks perfectly polished off with a slip-on mule.
A cropped, wide leg linen pant. Linen just screams, ‘Summer!’ and is SO chic. This is relaxed look is finished off with a strappy sandal.
