2023 Winter Trend: Faux Fur

Well now, it’s safe to say that we are in the full swing of Winter - brrrrrrr!! After months of 115ºF temperatures and weekends at the pool, even 60ºF in the desert feels chilly!

Do you also prefer warmer weather? I’m definitely made for the sauna-like heat BUT… one way I find helpful for enduring the chill is embracing Winter fashion trends.

Trends are a great way to give your style a little inspiration without having to do too much to your wardrobe. Sometimes it’s just adding that one piece, or maybe you don’t buy anything but just wear certain pieces more, OR in new, creative ways.

This year, one of Winter's trends is.. Faux fur!!

Now, I could absolutely cover myself in fur all year long. I would consider it one of my “signature details” (if you’ve been reading the blog for awhile you’ve heard of this).

As I’ve mentioned, when a trend is one of your signature details, it’s a great time to invest in it - because you’ll have more variety than ever to choose from, and of course, all those choices come courtesy of all those SALES!

Personally, I love a fur coat but because of where I live, it doesn’t get whipped out often. BUT… a fur headband is JUST enough! It can be casual, like while skiing, or with a monochromatic outfit as I run errands.

Here are a few pointers I’ve learned through the years when it comes to buying  fur:

  1. You can get away with more when you choose darker colors. Unless it’s an expensive faux fur, lighter colors (sorry!) tend to translate as “cheap.”

  2. If this is your first introduction to fur, start by choosing a classic shape. Going with a classic outline will encourage you to feel more comfortable and less like you’re attracting too much attention.

  3. Vests are a great compromise! Faux fur is warm and puffy, and fur vests are just very wearable.

  4. Try vintage! I wear my grandmother’s faux fur coat and it still looks like new!

  5. You can blow dry your fur! Yes! You CAN! Get it damp and run the hair dryer through it to make it fluffy (Be careful though, brushing it too hard may pull out the fluff, so extra gentle attention is advised!).

And now the fun part… LET”S SHOP!

Question: Where do YOU find your faux fur?!
