Time To Bloom With These May Flowers
It’s the beautiful month of May - time for graduations, confirmations, weddings and… May Crownings!
After the April showers, the May flowers are springing up and it’s time to feel the season.
Floral dresses are a perfect garment to have ready and waiting in your closet for a month like this (and other months, of course, but especially now).
Don’t you agree? A floral dress can really just brighten your day! So feminine and lovely - a simple delight!
A floral dress is a necessity to your wardrobe. Whether it’s a casual day or a festive occasion, it’s a fun choice for adding a little “spring” in your step!
For example, my Summer Carry-on Wardrobe is its own ‘capsule collection,’ and in it, I definitely added a floral dress for a little whimsy to my season basics. If you ever feel like you're bored with your summer wardrobe, or simply feel like it isn’t offering the flavor or punch that says, ‘You,’ just try adding a floral. I think you will find it a breath of fresh air to your style options and fun to wear!
There’s so many ways to style a floral dress, from simple to a bit more involved. You get immense versatility if you pick the right one.
This week I wore mine during the day with my comfy-yet-cute Cole Hahn sneakers and my hair in a light-hearted bun. Then for an evening aperitif and organ concert à la Basilique de Saint Michel, I simply took my hair down, slipped on an espadrille wedge, added an oversized stud earring (the Kate Spade studs from Nordstrom Rack are my fave!) and layered on a white cardigan. Here’s a few things to consider when shopping for the perfect bloom to your floral dress:
1.What color theme do I consistently like, that I won’t get easily tired of?
2.What silhouette can work with the layers I’ll be adding to it? For instance, is my summer layer a longer blazer? Or maybe it’s more of a cropped cardigan? How will this flatter my figure once I add my layers?
3.Which shoes (yes, plural!) will I be needing to go with this floral dress? Which length is perfect for the styles of shoes I’ll be pairing with this dress?
4.What fabrics and cuts do well for the climate I’m going to be in? Am I melting from the heat most days and need something light? Or perhaps I live in a place with cooler evenings where a ‘maxi’ length would come in handy?
5.Which accessories (that I already have) can be added to take this dress from classy to casual? Which necklaces will complement the neckline?
6.(Not really a question but…) Do you enjoy smaller floral patterns (known, for real, as ditzy prints)? I find these can make a much quieter statement so you can wear the same dress for even more occasions.
7.And of course… the most important question - Should the dress have POCKETS?!
Et voila! Here are a few floral dresses in bloom now to start your shopping bouquet!
Hope this idea helps you with getting ready for all your fun events this month!
