The Apple Shape: You’re Stylish to the Core

Can you believe that it is the last week of our Body Shape Series? Where has the time gone?! I’ve enjoyed chatting with you on Friday mornings on Facebook and Instagram! I hope we’ll keep that happy habit going with our  future blog posts together…. And you can always count on the fact that, if you have any questions you’d like answered immediately, you can always catch me there!

Now, let’s move on to our last body shape… The Apple!!

What is an apple shape? Well, your shoulder, waist and bust measurements are fairly similar. You differ from the Strawberry in that there is less definition to your waistline and you tend to carry your weight in your girth.

Just like all of the other shapes, we can use tricks with fabric and cut to highlight your best features! I’m delighted to share with you my TEN tips to style your silhouette perfectly. And of course, I won’t leave you hanging without links for where to shop.

10 StylingTips to Flatter an Apple shape:

  1. Dresses: Shifts look awesome, as will empire waistlines or wrap-types.

  2. Jeans: Stick with a straight leg jean. Avoid the wide legged look, as this may create an unflattering,  boxy silhouette (Yes, there’s always exceptions to every rule but it’s a good rule of thumb).

  3. Skip the jackets that have dramatic or thick collars and/or lapels. Go for clean and modern.

  4. Don’t be afraid to choose a bold shoe, especially in a color or print to frame your look and ground your silhouette.

  5. Go for feminine, silky fabrics in tops that have an elegant drape.

  6. Use stripes to your advantage! A vertically striped top (pinstripes anyone???) will really flatter your silhouette.

  7. Get creative with layering! Add longer lines, like a longer vest or jardigan over your basic outfit.

  8. Look for jackets that nip the waist in. Keep your lines simple and clean underneath with a basic top. This will break up your torso and create a lovely silhouette.

  9. Because you hold your weight around your girth, avoid adding any statement necklaces. Instead, choose a statement earring! (Hint: You can have a lot of fun with these!)

  10. Patterns might be tricky to rock but if you do, choose the boldest of them all! Go all out with bright, bold, fun florals!!!
