Let's Admit the Reality: Athleisure
Raise your hand with me if you’re guilty of wearing your workout apparel… when you have no intention of going to the gym.
I wore my tennis skirt and zip-up pullover to Safeway market one morning and was basically INTERROGATED by the produce man about the sport of tennis.
I couldn’t answer any of the questions, just kept stuttering...
I was so embarrassed!
Why was I so stressed?
…
BECAUSE I DON”T EVEN PLAY TENNIS
We all love wearing our workout clothes because they’re comfortable and we can wear comfy running shoes, too. I get it.
Athleisure has become such a HUGE trend. And it’s here to stay! In fact, in 2016, it was introduced into the Merriam Webster Dictionary.
Athleisure - noun ath·lei·sure \ ˈath-ˌlē-zhər , -ˌle- , -ˌlā- , ÷ˈa-thə- \ : casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and for general use.
So, as much as we talk about our fashion-style… I’d do injustice not to address our athletic wear (as much as we don’t like to admit it). Because athleisure can be a lot of fun! And it also helps as motivation to work out (or is that just me??? LOL).
Sooo… Here are 3 Tips for buying your Athleisure (and some fun links to shop!)
Tennis skirts are a GREAT option, in lieu of shorts. It doesn’t give you that sac-keister, baby diaper Look. I always bump up a size or 2 in these to get a little more length.
Pick workout sweatshirt/jackets that have a fun vibe/design to them, so that you can pair them with jeans and boots/tennys on a casual day.
Keep your life simple and stick with neutral colors and only bring in ONE fun, pop of color. It can be too easy to OVERDO the color with athleisure, so make sure you don’t fall into this trap. They'll have a few trendy colors come out every season, and you don't want to look dated wearing your neon green pullover 5 years later. Let's be practical & prudent, ladies!
