Your Personal "Sanity Outfit"
When was the last time you were getting ready in the morning and you suddenly despised ALL of your clothes?!
I must confess… this would happen to me ...
I could be getting dressed for Church in the morning, and suddenly… i felt as if my skin was crawling! (for those who might think this is extreme, you’ll be surprised how many women have the same experience.)
And it is such an awful feeling! Is it NOT?!
Over the years though, this experience fizzled away. As I reflected on why it did, I came to realize that when I was in one of these “binds,” could always wear my tasseled, black skirt with my black, pleated back black blouse, and I would find… sanity.
Yes, this outfit was my “Personal Sanity” Outfit.
It’s as if it kept me sane knowing that I could always wear this if I wasn’t sure what to wear.
I have found that there are 6 factors that will help you find the outfit which brings balance to when you don’t know what to wear:
Factor #1: The outfit must be able to transition throughout every season perfectly. Sounds nearly impossible, but that’s what it’s factor numero uno. When you find the outfit that matches this requirement, you are off to the races. (thank you tights, boots, and fur vests!)
Factor #2: The outfit allows you some room to wiggle up/down the scale. (hellooooo, Texas BBQ!) This throws out anything that’s too tight - which might cause you to have even more panic attacks when you try it and it doesn’t fit.
Factor #3: The outfit can easily be dressed up or down with accessories and shoes. This allows you to wear the outfit to a fancy dinner or just mimosa’s with the girlfriends. (where’s my metallic clutch?)
Factor #4: I’m no statistician or scientist, but this outfit MUST be 85% timeless and 15% personality. (a little pop and quirk!) Check out my article on how to know what fashion personality you are and which style works best.
Factor #5: Feel confident by highlighting your best features! For most women, this will mean anything to emphasize the hourglass shape. Balance your body and “trick the eye”, by using the right cuts, silhouettes, fabrics, and colors.
Factor #6: It needs to be comfortable! Lofty ideas of bearing with pain, never play out… so be practical!
After you have a think about these factors, reflect and jot down your answers. And there, you’ll have the guidelines of the perfect outfit you’re searching for! Hope this de-stresses your life!
