Dressed for the Queen... of Heaven!

As a Catholic, I often have to embrace what others may seem as “naive,” “corny,” or just outright “a little OTT.”

Let me explain.

Tomorrow, December 8th, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and traditionally I like to dress up for Our Lady on her feast day. This means I’m DEFinitely going to be repping a blue or gold dress!

You may think (or not?) this is a liiiiiiiiiittle dorky, but it is actually so fun if you just own it.

Wearing ‘Queen of Heaven’ blue is my signature fashion tip for December 8th. While it may not be on everyone’s top list of things to do (Mass, prayers, devotions, etc), it is for me, and I take this as a great lesson in humility (lol).

(PS - I have been doing the Novena to the Immaculate Conception with my hubs.)

My absolute FAVORITE time to celebrate this Solemnity Day was last year.  Why? I got married that day! Instead of wearing Marian blue, I opted for a crown along with Swarovski crystal cape. I hope Mary liked it!!! My wedding was one of the most special occasions of my life (obviously). Yes, I was marrying a wonderful man, but I also got to express my Catholic faith through my dress.

It’s important that we demonstrate reverence and praise to God by the way we dress, wouldn’t you agree?

Our photographer was a wonderful Catholic, young lady… Emma Dallman! Her photography is just gorgeous!

Here is another reason why it’s wonderful to wear blue or gold on Marian feast days. When people compliment your outfit, you can tell them WHY!  Our clothes give us a simple way to “give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” (1 Peter 3:15).

Because there are a few Marian feast days, I highly recommend that you have some options, from casual to more dressy. You can do a lot of fun things, like having a blue shimmer skirt in your wardrobe, or maybe keep it simple by wearing a blue sapphire necklace. Maybe you can even go all out with a cobalt fit and flare? There are plenty of options for you to choose from.

So as a Catholic woman, you have a LOT of fun ways to celebrate with your wardrobe (even if you’re not getting super dressed up). It’s all in the styling!

Below I have selected for you some ways to add a Marian vibe to honor Our Lady on her big days!! Along with some styling tips!

River Island: Petite Midi Dress To not take away from the dress I would pair this with a nude flat or heel. If you want to make it more casual, you can pop on a lighter denim jacket. To dress it up, just add a statement necklace and a red lip!

Zara: Pleated Skirt Stunning, right?! For a trendy-casual look, you could pair this with a slouchy sweater and ankle booties. To dress it up for the evening, pair it with a black silk blouse in heels. Amazing how something can go from casual day to night by just swapping a few things!

J Crew: Side Slit Sweater If you want to be comfy cozy, you can pop this top on with your favorite jeans. Slip on some booties, tenny’s, or leopard flats and you are good to go!

Evernew: Sequin Ruffle Hem Bring on the sparkle and shine!! This is SUCH a fun dress to wear in the evening with heels and a red lip. Pull your hair back in a low bun to pull of an elegant Look. To dress it down, you could pop on a camel jacket or blazer to soften all of the shine.

ASOS: Casual Stripe Detail How cute is THIS?! Perfect in the spring with white tenny’s, in the winter with tights, boots and fur, or in the fall with a quilted vest!

Monique Lhullier: Sequin Dress STUNN-ING. This dress is gorgeous with some black heels or wear it with a cardigan and flats to dress it down a bit. The silhouette is SO flattering on almost any figure!

Question: What do YOU do to celebrate Mary in a special way?!
