Your Personal Style Is Found In The Details

When was the last time you left a store and just felt… exhaaaaauuuuuusted… when it comes to shopping and finding the right clothes for YOU?

Or maybe I should say… how OFTEN does this happen? Right?!

As you walk from one section to another, from one rack to another, from one piece to another, there’s so much variety in a store like Nordstrom, feeling exhausted is bound to happen. You walk in and your eyes go in a thousand directions. You’re trying to balance what you like, what catches your eye, and what you actually like AND need.

Well… this happens because your brain is like a computer. When too much info gets inputted in a short amount of time, it gets OVERloaded.

The result: You are likely to buy pieces that makes NO sense for your closet. Therefore, they sit… and sit… and sit… and you NEVER wear them.

Wah wahhhhh… another addition the donate pile… and money down the drain.

SO, what changed in MY life that made this not happen to me. What made shopping fun and enjoyable and NOT stressful?! And EVERY piece I’m absolutely head over heels with it?

ONE MAJOR CHANGE in my shopping routine helped me. That change was knowing which signature details resonated with my personality.

You may be asking, “What are signature details?” OKay, let me explain…

You and I have to some degree will connect with subtle design components. For instance, we may both really like a classic stripe, or we may both like specific details such as bows and fur. Others women may like edgier touches like leather. Signature details are like our taste buds for our closet. You may like sweet more than spice, or you may like fruits over veggies.

To make your shopping experience more fun, you need to find out what details you like.

For me, my signature details definitely have a fun POP! This way, I can have a baseline of classic/muted pieces that really bring in the fun pizzazz with little style details. For example, while my closet consists of blacks, creams, and camels in classic cuts… I bring in my personality by adding feathers, fur, and ruffles! These are my signature and say: This is definitely a Meghan outfit.

It’s important to identify which Signature Details speak to you. Below is a list of them for you to review. I recommend identifying 3-4 details that make you jump for joy.  Also, don’t rush it… let it sink and really give it some time to marinate. Once you find those 3-4 details, you’re shopping trips will be a breeze and you’re closet will be cohesive and totally YOU.

Here’s how I style my fave personal details!

One of my favorite tops! It’s actually a Kate Spade dress that was wayyyyyy too short. Typically, i always say to never wear a dress with jeans, but in the case that this looks like a longer top… it works!

The Ostrich Feathers crank this classic boat neck top to the next level. Note that… when incorporating something more quirky… you keep it with a classic silhouette so that it’s not mindlessly crazy!

Ruffles!! Such a an easy way to add some femininity to your Look! Just like fur, you can have a simple outfit and let these bring the stylish vibe.

Fur is a fantastic detail because it says SO much and you can keep the rest of your Look super minimal and timeless and still get that POP!

The grooves in the fur pattern make it not so puffy like a snowball and add that little extra something.
